Internal Medicine
Fort Loudoun Medical Center
Doctors of internal medicine prevent and treat adult diseases. Internists are sometimes called the "doctor's doctor," because they act as consultants to other physicians to help solve puzzling diagnostic problems.
Caring for the whole patient
Internists (not to be confused with medical school interns) are professionals trained to deal with whatever problems come up, no matter how simple or complex. They can range from chronic illnesses to substance abuse, as well as common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs.
Internal medicine also comprises many subspecialties, such as cardiology.
Caring for life
Internists take pride in caring for their patients for life - in the office, clinic, hospital, intensive care, and nursing home.
