Ophthalmology
Fort Loudoun Medical Center

At Fort Loudoun Medical Center, our medically trained specialists include ophthalmologists who diagnose and treat diseases of the eye. Sometimes they're called an "Eye MD." Ophthalmologists deal with areas of the eye such as the cornea and retina, and with conditions such as glaucoma and blindness, among others. Our professionals aim to help patients with eye problems achieve and maintain the best sight possible.

Surgery by an 'Eye MD'
Cataract surgery is an example of a special procedure performed by an ophthalmologist. In this sight-restoring operation, surgeons remove the opaque human lens and replace it with an artificial implant.

LASIK (which stands for Laser Assisted-in-Situ Keratomilieusis) is another example. Many East Tennesseans have had this surgery to improve their eyesight. Doctors use a laser to remodel the cornea. Often patients see so well they don't need glasses anymore.
